What It Really Means to Create a Personalized Money System

The World has a one-size-fits-all system with finance and perhaps you’ve noticed its cracks are really beginning to show… (or just maybe you’ve experienced those cracks in the financial system personally).

If you've ever downloaded a budget template, opened a money app or followed a strict savings formula only to feel more overwhelmed than empowered, you're not alone. Most financial advice is built on logic, discipline, and "shoulds."

And you’re reading this very article because you know there has to be a better way and I’m here to tell you, there is!

Because if you're a creative, healer or purpose-driven professional, you may have had challenges trying to adapt yourself to an old school way of looking at money + personal finances.

And if you’re anything like me, you’re a kind hearted, curious person who’s willing to learn something new, to heal something old.

Whether you feel clear + confident with your money today or are just embarking on a new financial journey, you do believe in this, “money isn't just about math. It's about meaning.”

Perhaps you’ve tried to follow everything by the book when it comes to your finances. Or maybe you were taught untruths by the people who loved you the most. They were simply trying to protect you and keep you safe.

But either way now, you’re interested to discover a personalized money system that truly aligns with your innate values and everyday reality.

So, what if you stopped trying to force your finances into someone else's system and instead built a practice that reflects you?

Your values. Your energy. Your vision for life.

All of this and so much more is available to you, welcome to your personalized money practice, rooted in your values.

What Is a Values-Based Money Practice?

A money practice is having a living, breathing relationship with money.

A healthy money practice can be deeply personal, naturally emotional and even spiritual. It's a system of habits, behaviors and strategies that support your everyday real life with more self-trust, greater emotional intelligence and a caring devotion for your present, past and future.

We’re in a new era where money isn’t just centered on mindset alone. We’re saying bye-bye to rigid budgets and shame-based checklists, that’s the “old boys club of money management”. (There’s a new path unfolding right before your very eyes!)

This is a holistic approach to finances that takes into account your personal stories and lived experiences because money is multidimensional just like any other complex facet of daily living in our modern world.

While I’ll share my own thoughts and ideas of what I’ve seen support my work + clients, I courageously invite you to also make it your own.

Having a positive money practice supports you to:

  • Make intentional decisions without pressure

  • Honor your personal capacity every season with aligned action

  • Create a life that celebrates money in an energetically positive way

  • Track, plan and save in ways that feel grounding (not soul-sucking) as you tangibly create the vision you see for your life

It doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful.

The 3 Elements of Building a Personalized Money System

1. Values-Based Visioning

Financial and money planning without vision is just another to-do list. Start by naming what matters to you: freedom, impact, beauty, legacy, rest, creativity. Allow yourself to free-write and just let yourself flow on these topics. What’s a true desire vs. something society ‘told you’ to want, desire or need.

Remember, your personal values aren’t fluff, they’re in fact your energetic compass.

Ask Yourself:

  • What do I want money to help me experience or create now and in the future?

  • How do I want to feel in my relationship with money?

2. Energy-Aware Routines, Rituals + Action

We have to rewire our brains to let go of the “hustle culture” that leaves us exhausted and burned out. Instead, let’s welcome in a sustainable money system that honors your unique energy. For you, it may look like setting money dates on your high-energy days or building in spaciousness for reflection or automating systems so you can stay present.

What matters is that you know what and why you’re taking action. It’s intentional for you, not a mindless habit but an affirming and empowering practice.

Ask Yourself:

  • When am I most clear-headed and resourced for financial decisions and how can I build an intentional routine around this time?

  • What series of actions support me to move the needle on my money goals? Where could I begin to get in a natural rhythm and candace with daily, monthly, quarterly, annual decisions and actions?

  • Where am I using outdated (or other people’s) habits instead of empowering systems? What could be refreshed, optimized and redefined?

3. Sustainable Strategy = Regulated Money System

Your personal money system will be as unique as your fingerprint. This is why you need grounded tools that you actually enjoy and truly meet you in your real life. Instead of relying on emotional extremes like restricting too heavily or ignoring completely, create a set of practices that matches your current season of life.

Maybe that’s saving in a high-yield account, setting up auto-payments and transfers or creating a spreadsheet + budget that’s organized by categories (i.e. income, investments, expenses and debts).

But let this just be the first layer…because you can also set intentions during a Full Moon, journal after yoga or meditation or simply go for a walk to release outdated emotions.

You can be as spiritual or woo as you’d like to be, including not at all. I personally enjoy using astrology to support my clients in discovering + understanding their innate strengths, gifts and opportunities for growth.

Ask Yourself:

  • What financial tasks do I avoid, ignore, obsess over and why?

  • What simple practices would support a regular sustainable cadence of actions and what other forms of wellness empower and support you?

Common Money Mistakes (and Gentle Reframes)

There’s really no such thing as ‘mistakes’ because it can actually become a learning opportunity if you allow it to be.

Mistake #1: Believing money has to be hard-earned or an emotionally heavy topic.

Reframe: Money is a powerful, positive relationship, if you’re willing to step beyond society’s noise and norms. You get to co-create with it in a way that feels safe + supportive. When you clear, cleanse + alchemize past ancestral and inner child stories and experiences, you can find fun with money.

Mistake #2: Waiting for clarity before taking action

Reframe: The ‘perfect day’ to get started is between day one and one day. Start right where you are today, knowing the journey is only just beginning. Clarity will continue to arrive through each small action.

Mistake #3: Thinking there’s a "right" way to do it

Reframe: The "right" way is the one that you’ll actually enjoy and stick with. Give yourself the grace + flexibility to experiment with different methods and tools in your money practice until you land on something you truly resonate with. (And then don’t be afraid to change it up every once in a while, keep a beginner’s mind.)

Reflection Prompts

  • What do I want my next season of money confidence to feel like?

  • Where am I following rules that no longer apply to me or never have?

  • What’s one way I could deepen my connection with my money this week?

Final Thought: You don’t need another spreadsheet to "fix" your money.

You need a system that meets you where you are, reflects who you are and evolves with you. Because true money confidence and a personalized, sustainable system that mirrors your values, isn’t found in someone else's formula. It starts with honoring yourself, creating self-trust.
